'MagiCal' is a menu-based calendar and clock.

The application can successfully replace the clock that is built in the Mac OS X, because it gives you various options. The clock and the calendar are very customizable and flexible.

The preferences panel gives you options that can change the look of the Time, Date, Tooltip, and Calendar.

The clock supports 12 or 24 hours format, font changes, as well as a digital or analog look. The date supports different font sizes and can show you the day or the month. You can configure it as you wish.

The Tooltip section allows you to format the Tooltip look. The calendar section allows you to check Monday as the first day of the week, as well as to make the calendar window float behind other windows.

Pluses: It places a clock in the menu. If you click the clock or the date icon, it pops up a calendar. It doesn't use many system resources and it's highly customizable.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: This application gives you more control over the look of the clock and date. It can successfully replace the clock that is built in Mac OS X.
